Can you still get pregnant if you have a damaged tube (both tubes leaked the dye during an HSG)?
My left tube is damaged but both tubes leaked the dye. My doctor said the left tube is kind of abnormal and it may have been due to an infection. The left tube was slower to respond but the dye did leak out.
I get my periods every single month now and have been for the past two years or so. I don’t know if I’m ovulating, but I have PCOS so the doctor doubts that I am. I also found out (at the time I had my HSG done in June of 2007) that I have a 4" fibroid on my uterus. I believe that’s also on the left side.
What’s puzzling me is that if I do have two ovaries and two tubes, one of them that works just fine, why am I not getting pregnant (assuming that I may ovulate sometimes)? Could having a damaged tube (regardless of whether or not it’s open) cause infertility?

its possible that this is whats causing it. you still have a chance of getting pregnant with your working tube but there is no saying what side releases the egg each month or any given month. you should see a reproductive endocrinologist for more work ups and options
the human body is an amazing creature…and a dumbfounding one
I only have my left side left (after having emerg. surgery in Mexico where they removed my right ovary and 1/3 of my fallopian tube) I was told by the docs that my chances of convceiving naturally were slim and I’d prolly need some help.
Afterwards, didn’t use birth control for over 2 years and had sex regularly with my hubby… and we now have a beautiful 3 month little girl.
You never know…but trying is half the fun
)
I would think so, heck my mother had my sister and she had her tubes tied…..so yeah i would think so
Anything is possible. My mom wasn’t able to get preg…..well here i am.
These are really questions for an OB/GYN. You could probably still get pregnant, but your chances are less than a woman who doesn’t have damaged tubes. You can buy ovulation kits that can tell you when or if you are ovulating at all. Your chances are slim but miracles happen every day.
See a fertility specialist if you’re able ($$). They can "work around" all of those issues if you’re willing to go those routes (IUI, IVF, etc.)
