I was wondering if surgery is the only way to get rid of them?
and can they cause death?

Fibroid tumors are NOT necessarily cancerous; and certainly NOT deadly. But they CAN grow very large and become painful. After menopause they can SHRINK. Prior to that, however, you doctor COULD give you medication to shrink them. . . .but it COULD ALSO cause you to grow facial hair. A myomectomy would help to get rid of them while STILL preserving your uterus.
no alarm it will disappeared somehow.
Go to this site and read all about them!

Here is some links that will hopefully help you in one way or another best of luck!!
In the UK these are normally just called Fibroids.. boy, these things are so common – apparently even more so in Asia..
Really simple surgery or if you are rich you can have injections – into your stomach once a month (approx £2,000 each)…
If they are not causing a problem they can be left, my Mum had fibroids when pregnant with me – there was plenty of room for a good sized baby and no delivery problems.
I had some injections – courtesy of our marvellous NHS – prior to an hysterectomy as the organ is easier to remove without 8" fibroids inside.. It was very interesting to watch my tummy shrink!!
Good Luck – I am sure that your doctor will guide you in the right direction for you… In the meantime you may find the following web-site of interest: http://womenshealth.about.com/cs/fibroidtumors/a/fibroidtumors.htm
