I am 35 weeks and 4 days and the baby hasn't moved much today. Should I call my doctor or Labor & Delivery?
I know they say keep track of kick counts (5 in an hour, 10 in two hours). But today I think I’ve felt him move maybe 5-6 times and it’s a little after 1 p.m. here. Yesterday, he was really active. He would stay calm for a few hours and then move around for a while and then go back to being idle. I’d really hate to run to Labor & Delivery or call my doctors office behind nothing, but I am a little concerned. To be honest, some days he just doesn’t seem that active.
The problem is he has been measuring smaller (actually he was two weeks behind as of this past Monday whereas he had been one week behind). I am getting weekly ultrasounds (growth scan one week and well-being scan the next week). I went to Labor & Delivery on Monday for a non-stress test and they said everything was fine. My doctor sent me because he couldn’t verify that the baby was practicing breathing in the womb.
He is measuring in the 14th percentile which is close to the 10th percentile which indicate IUGR (Intra Uterine Growth Restriction). I guess I’m worried because I don’t want to assume he’s just being lazy today, when he’s in fact completely out of room or just isn’t growing anymore and needs to come out. My c-section is scheduled for January 29th (so two weeks and one day away). I am having a c-section due to a prior myomectomy (fibroid removal).
What do you think? Wait it out? Call the doctor? Call Labor & Deliver? I can feel a little movement here and there but not much. I am at work so I can’t drink juice and lie down on my side as there’s no where to lay.
Also, my doctor isn’t worried at all … he’s concerned about the fact that he’s measuring a little behind but isn’t in a panic about anything.

No need to lie down, but if you drink something sweet, like juice it just may wake the baby up and you’ll feel alot more movement. Lots of walking while pregnant, is like lots of rocking, it soothes the baby. When you sit down or lie down and relax, typically that is when the baby wakes up and is most active. Usually, kick counts are done at the exact same time each day, whatever time your baby seems to be the most active. Typically, after dinner when you’re trying to relax. Those two hours of no movement followed by lots of activity, are very common. Once your baby is born, he”ll more than likely have the same patterns of sleep and activitey.
You should call your doctor to ease your worries, and be safe. Try not to worry, you’ll be cuddling your baby in just a few short weeks.
Best Wishes & Congratulations!
With your history, yes call them (your doctor)!
Nothing may be wrong but I would call just to make sure. It’s better to be safe then sorry. Good luck
I am sure he is just being lazy today… ( that is something mine knows nothing about lazy days haha)
