i have uterine fibroids that are 8mm big and i have a cyst on my ovary. my question is……?
when should i start considering a hysterectomy? i am taking hormones (agystin) now to try and shrink them. my doctor said that it is supposed to work. exactly how big is an 8mm fibroid? should i be worried? if 8mm is really small then why do i bleed so bad and why do i hurt so much? if 8mm is huge then why not just do the hysterectomy? what other problems should i expect from a 8mm fibroid and cyst?
i just turned 30 in january. me and my husband have 4 kids and my tubes have been "tied and burned" (tubaligation) so we are not having any more kids. what are the health risk of having a hysterectomy so young?

fibroid tumors are highly vascular, so when you cyle thru your period, they bleed quite a bit, a woman can become severely anemic from fibroids, but if you have only one, it’s really not that big a deal. As for a cyst on your ovary, I am surprised your doctor did not explain to you that cysts form on ovaries normally to release an egg, the cyst breaks and the ova is propelled toward the fallopian tube. So, that too is a normal process.
What you might want to discuss with your doctor is a D&C instead of a hysterectomy. And there is also the partial hysterectomy too, where only the uterus is removed and you keep your ovaries for the hormones they produce. I would not consider a total hysterectomy until there simply was no other choice based on heavy bleeding causing anemia, or debilitating pain.
I know it hurts. I had a hysterectomy at 24 because of them, I am 57 now. Hold off as long as you possibly can and try to get it resolved non-surgically first. I was in the e.r. every week-end it hurt so bad. The doctors started to think I was a hypochondriac. Looking back, I wish I would have waited. Having a hysterectomy caused a whole other set of problems. {{Hugs}}
It depends on how old you are and if you want children…my wife has these same fibroids, she had them removed by laproscopic surgery about 5 years ago because we hadn’t decided about kids yet…they have since grown back and she is probably going to be forced to have the hysterectomy other wise she just doesn’t stop bleeding but a couple of days a month. 8 mm is a little bit larger than a pea, not to big yet but without treatment they will get worse. if you are not going to have kids I would just get it over with. you can alway consider adoption, there are plenty of kids in need. thats what we are thinking of doing…I hope everything works out. good luck
I had the exact same problems, same symptoms, my fibroid were the size of a chicken egg. I was anemic.
Took so much Motrin for pain…now I have high blood pressure.
I had a hysterectomy..complete.
I don’t know how old you are. Sometimes if you are too young the doctors don’t like to do them. But I was 48, and I begged my doctor. Best decision of my life.
I should had it done sooner.
I never took any hormones replacements. Don’t have hot flashes…as long as I don’t eat meat especially red meat…then i get some at night.
