I just found out I have fibroid tumor. Has anyone had any experiences with treatments?
I was just told I have a fibroid the size an orange. The Doctor has given me some options. First- I would be given hormones for 6 months to shrink the size of the fibroid and then have the fibroid removed. The down side is that the hormones will put me in a medically induced menapause. With all of the symtoms of menapause, including decrease in bone density. And the fibroid could grow right back!!! Next the doctor suggested Ablation. This is where the destroy the lining of my uterus with heat. This would render me infertile and does have some risks. The last resort is hysterectomy but the only one that would be 100% effective. But I would like to keep my uterus.
I am 35 years old and am not planning on having anymore children. Please if anyone has any stories or suggestions let me know I’m not sure which treatment I should pick.
I haven’t mentioned that I have had symptoms. I have VERY heavy periods that last about 7-10 days. I am now anemic because of this. Next because of the size of the fibroid it is pressing against my intestines and causing other problems.

Thirteen years ago, my doctor found a fibroid bigger than a softball. I chose the hysterectomy, but kept my ovaries (no hormone therapy needed). I was 40 years old, and have not regretted it a day since. I wasn’t planning on having any more kids, and I lost the monthly routine (along with all the back pain and cramping). I have started menopause, but it’s mild.
I didn’t give my doctor any other option. It’s what I wanted.
I am 42 and I found out that I had fibroids 8 years ago when I had an ultrasound with my son. They have never been a problem, in fact, I wouldnt even know that I had them if it weren’t for the ultrasound. I read that 1/3 of women have them. Are they causing you a problem? If they aren’t then why do you need to have anything done at this time…they aren’t cancerous (at least not the kind that I have) and there is no reason to do anything, my doctor says, unless they start to bother me.
I think that many women go through life with fibroids and never even know they have them.
Sit in a bathtub with water as high as you can get it,
AS HOT as you can get it,
for as long as you can spare the time.
15 – 30 minutes each time.
Twice a day =
first thing in the morning and in the evening.
Drink Pau d’arco tea (health food store)
I also took raspberry capsules.
Good luck.
what kind of problems is it causeing to your intestines?
did ur dr prescribe iron pills? i dont understand why they would give u hormones to shrink it.fibroids feed off hormones. i had fiborids, the doc gave me the pill because of heavy bleeding. it made my fibroids bigger.
i started a very strict diet of no dairy, no red meats or eggs for a year and they shrank. there are so many hormones in the foods we eat.
if i were u i would avoid any kind of pills or surgeires and opt for the natural route. remember that docs get good money for performing surgeries and giving out drugs.
excerpt:From a holistic perspective, there are many factors that can contribute to the development of fibroids. The treatment of fibroids will therefore involve changing as many of these factors as possible. The most important factors will vary with the specifics of the case.
Psychological stress has a profound effect on the functioning of our nervous and endocrine systems. Excessive levels of stress will inevitably lead to imbalances of the female reproductive hormones. In addition, many people tend to hold tension in their abdominal region. This will have the additional effect of reducing blood flow to the uterus.
It is important to not only identify and reduce exposure to stressful situations whenever possible, but it is also essential to learn how to deal with potentially stressful situations more effectively as stress mostly results from how we respond to situations rather than the situations in themselves.
Exercise helps to reduce stress and improve blood flow to the uterus and endocrine glands. It also helps our body to eliminate toxicity, which I will address below. Other disciplines such as meditation, yoga, tai chi and various stress management techniques can also be helpful.
Consumption of stimulants has basically the same effect on our body as stress. It is therefore important to reduce consumption of coffee, tea, cola and chocolate as much as possible.
Other foods that should be reduced include sweets, red meats, dairy products, alcohol, processed foods and bad fats such as deep fried foods and other sources of rancid, hydrogenated and saturated fats and oils.
Anyone who has uterine fibroids should also avoid taking birth control pills and use other methods of contraception.
On the positive side, it is best to increase consumption of whole foods, especially fresh fruits and vegetables. Essential fatty acids are also very important. Good quality essential fatty acids can be optained from flax oil and similar food supplements.
Antioxidant nutritional supplements will also benefit fibroids. These include vitamins A, C, E, the various carotenes, bioflavinoids and anthocyanidin supplements such as grape seed and pine bark extracts.
Hi Sweetie,
Exact same thing as I! My GYN opted to do
an ablation-balloon like u & said I’d have lil bleeding here & there. A year later I’m having my period twice as much, 7-8 days &
less then a month, heavy, huge blood clots, & am now Anemic again! Pinch me I’ll bruise
plus weak & lathargic, thus knowing the fibroids r back big time. Because I turned 50
he figures, I’ll soon hit the Menopose & won’t give me a Hystromectacy I wanted in the 1st place. I also have Endometriosis for yrs. & Ex & I couldn’t have kids even went to
the I.V.F. stages to no avail. You r blessed to kids, my freind & if I were U at 35 yrs. &
us both being in the same perdictament I’d choose the latter & get it over with as 20 yrs
down the road, I DO NOT want to see U in my condition! The Abulation I had 0 100% I
can vouch for THAT! For the pain, suffering
& 20 more yrs. of this PLUS going through
the Menopause isn’t worth the pain, for U r family, I seriously feel like I don’t have a uterous even now, just pain, agony, anemic,
& never know when period is coming.? After
1 yr. of no period in menopause R done, &
look at me, like a 16 yr old having multiple, cramps, pain, bloating, bruising, & mental stress as GYN won’t Hysterectomy cause I waited too late! I have an appt. with him next
mnth & am going to have to INSIST on a D&C. This is been going on for months now
& I can’t function mentally/phyically anymore
I’m drained out, lathargic, & want it to if not end, restore some of my life back.(bloating)
Please do the Hysterect. before they start saying no to U too! I only want the Best for u, & I told u how Dr.s think, wait’ll r menop?
My Best, I”m Sure U’ll make the right Decision
