Im only 22 with fibroids, and have multiple symptoms, Im scared…..?
I went to the doctors many times for my periods. 8 months ago i had an ultra sound, and they discovered fibroids and polyps. I didnt think anything of it until recently I have done research on them. I did not realize that this was the reason why I have the worst periods I have heard of from my friends. (ex: PAIN, throwing up from pain, clotting, long and heavy periods, spotting, like 21 periods so far in this year alone, even went to the hospital once for pain, and so on…) I have no health insurance because of a divorce, and I wanted to know what I should do, bite the bullet and rack up doctor bills? also will i need a hysterectomy, cuz I am only 22, but life for me right now is miserable…..any help, or advice from a caring soul would be lovely, i appreciate it!

Oh sweetie, I’m sorry. This is tough and I’ve had fibroids too (though not as many). You will *NOT* need to have a hysterectomy if you find a good, caring doctor who is skilled in performing abdominal myomectomies. The purpose of a myomectomy is to remove the fibroid tumors while still preserving the uterus. Please check out the link posted below for the National Uterine Fibroid Foundation. They helped me to find a skilled surgeon as well as moral support from other women in the same boat. I ended up having my myomectomy two years ago and it was a success. This is a scary time for you but please don’t despair.
if you looked up the fibroids you’d also see that there are new treatments..so I’d go the new treatment route and forget all the pain meds and Dr bills.
my daughter is 26. at 18 she was found to have fibroids. After having two kids they just got worse and worse and she had a hysterectomy at 24 years old. Thankfully she is now healthy and able to function.
I had a myomectomy in 2005 at the age of 28. I did not have any children. I thought I would have to have a hysterectomy also. Due to my age and the fact of not having kids, your doctor will try everything available before they consider a hysterectomy unless life/death. I lost 19lbs in 7 days after my surgery. Fibroid was the size of a newborn. Now I tell everyone DON’T wait to see a doctor. If you are unemployed you can go to your local health clinic. You won’t get the same treatment as you would from a personal MD, but you will see a doctor that can help you. Don’t put off for tomorrow what you can do today.
Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!
This would all depend on what your doctor recommends. Fibroid is usually taken care of with a hysterectomy only if those benign fibroids turn into cancer. Also, since you are young, you probably want to have children, having this surgery would unable you from having babies. It all depends on the severity of your fibroids and your future plans. Consult a doctor because if it means your life, you need to get that hysterectomy (even if it cost you a lot, life is far more precious). But by what I have read, it doesn’t look like you have to go through surgery. You’ll probably have to have a lot of medication to relief the pain and that can also make you feel miserable. Just talk to your doctor and he/she will be able to help you a lot more. God bless and hope you the best in your life endeavors.
