A fibroid is a benign (not cancer) tumor made up of uterine tissue....basically just an organized ball tissue. Fibroids DO NOT turn into cancer. At the most, they can grow large enough that they cause symptoms like bleeding, cramping that are severe enough to necessitate a hysterectomy. Very occasionally they are located in such a way that makes it difficult to get pregnant. Obviously this is not the case with you :) Most women don't even realize they have them and they're discovered incidentally. Based on it's size and location, your doctor did not feel it was significant enough to mention because it didn't appear it was going to affect your baby. And truth be told, depending on the experience of the sonographer that identified it, you may not have one at all. I know I've personally done exams to follow up one done by another tech who identified fibroids, only to find the uterus is normal...and true fibroids do not go away on their own in a year's time. Sometimes a collection of blood vessels or just plain inexperience can lead someone to believe something is there when it isnt. So relax, and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. Cancers of the uterus occur in the endometrium, anyway, so the likelihood that your fibroid is anything but benign is very, very small. Good luck!

Utirine fibroids are very normal and are necessarily dangerous. After giving birth they can do a D&C and remove it during the process. It's not a big thing - really. Relax ... your hormones are reving you up unnecessarily.
