My doctor tells me I should remove the fibroids but I don’t have any symptoms?

What would you do if you were me? I’m 35, don’t have children but hope to have them in the future (don’t know when, cause I don’t have a man to have them with). I was diagnosed with 6 larde uterine fibroids, the largest being the size of a melon. I don’t have any symptoms whatsoever, except my stomach is kind of big. My doctor tells me to have a surgery to have them removed. What would you do? Please share your experience if you had them removed. How did you feel 6 weeks after surgery?
The proposed surgery is lapatoral myomectomy (via incision that is).

Well, the thing is, even though you don’t have symptoms, those fibroids might represent a problem with carrying a baby to term in the uterus. So if you want to have children, you’d have to have the fibroids removed, anyway. However, because you want to preserve your fertility, I wouldn’t just take the word of this doctor. I would get a second opinion. There are a lot of different ways to remove fibroids, and some doctors are more skilled than others at doing so. You’ll want to have the best surgery, not just an average surgeon. You might want to go to a fertility specialist, who will likely be particularly skilled at removing fibroids while preserving fertility. The worst thing would be to wake up and find that they’ve removed your uterus because the surgery was too difficult otherwise, so you must make your wishes known beforehand. In addition to the myomectomy, there’s also a procedure called "uterine artery embolization" (UAE) that can sometimes be performed, and is less invasive than myomectomy (which surgically cuts out the fibroid). UAE involves cutting off the blood supply to the fibroid, causing it to shrink and go away. This surgery is delicate, but not all that invasive. There’s no way to tell from here which procedure is right for you, but getting a second opinion, and asking each doctor about both myomectomy and UAE, will help you to know what all of your options are.
Well, I don’t have them but my mom does. She has had them for most of her life and she had 4 children without having them removed. Hers largest one is a couple centimeters in diameter, her first doctor wanted to remove them, but she went to another doctor for a second opinion and she said that if she isn’t having any symptoms or pain do not have them removed unless you just want them removed. But, yours are very large if they are melon sized, if it were me I would have them removed. They can grow larger or become cancerous.
Honestly, if you have fibroids that large, I think having the surgery is your best idea if you ever want to have kids. I have one small fibroid, but it’s not likely to interfere with any possible pregnancy, but when they are as large as yours are I think getting pregnant and carrying the baby to term is unlikely. By 6 weeks after surgery, you should be feeling pretty much okay.
The worst thing that I’ve had were ovarian cyst but my sister had fibroids. Although they weren’t as large as urs,she took the drs advice and got them taken care of before the symptoms started kicking n and b4 it was 2late. Since u c urself wanting children in the future but u dnt know when I would suggest u take ur drs advice and get them taken care of because I do know that they will make conception more difficult and u don’t wanna wait until ur at that point. Ok…if I were you I’d listen to your Doctor because they can grow and spread and totally mess with your uterus for later. (Regardless of if you do or don’t have symptoms).
My sister had them removed via keyhole surgery and she recovered just fine! It is quite a common procedure!
i do have fibroids, but none of my dr’s are concerned about removing them. I did have a d&c a couple months ago, but didn’t do anything for them.
if my doctor was suggesting i have surgery, I would do it. There must be some reason he would like them removed. OR, if you’re bothered by the thoughts of surgery, get a second opinion if possible. but i would really have it done, if i didn’t get a second opinion.
You need to conserve your fertility. These are big. Yes I think your doctor is right, you can’t keep them if you want to have kids later. I guess that at that size you don’t have them on the wall of the uterus because if you would he would have to remove your uterus. So if it’s outside of the uterus be happy that he can removed them that way.
I think it is really your best bet, the surgery. I need a myomectomy in July but mine are on the wall of the uterus and I’m really scared to have it removed, I hope not.
Did your doc make an ultrasound to find that size fibroid?
You need to get the surgery because if one day you get pregnant there are a lot of complications if you leave the fibroids, they grow and may interfere with gestation and you may lose the baby.
