Plantar Fascitis / fibro mitosis of the foot?
I’m exhausted with this condition.. For two years I’ve struggled with shots, braces, medications, foot casts, two doctors later I still suffer from this condition. It started out as a hard lump on the bottom of my arch, eventually it went away and then I started having heel pain. had the shots, till they couldnt give me anymore… my toes (except for my big toe) are being pulled up. contracting UP.. how is this possible when the lump was on the bottom of my foot. I now experience pain on the top of my foot, the left side of my foot.. you can feel swelling inside… the toes that are being pulled up are mostly numb on the skin, but hurt inside. I have a doc appt tomorrow to discuss surgery, only he seems to think the only solution would be to cut the plantar, releasing it. If I have fibroid tumors growing how can this help? My doc seems a bit baffled by all this.. and im concerned he may not know so much about whats going on. My only problem? I cant seem to find a doc specialized in this stuff… any searches on line bring up firbomyalgia which isnt what I have, there just doesnt seem to be much online regarding my specific condition. I know this runs in familys .. is also called Duptryns disease (spelling) and can show up in the feet or hands. My left foot is affected to a pretty big degree, and upon my last visit ,the doc found a new lump on my right foot, on the arch. Can anyone out there help me with where I can find a good surgeon for this? I live in NC.. any information would be appreciated. I have a list of questions for my doc, but fear he may not have much experience in removal of fibroid growths. I’m at my wits end.. having trouble walking, and work at a huge retail store 12 hours a day. How can I keep doing my job if I cant find some relief? Ack.

Ok, first you need to know that I am a RN and I did a little research myself. There are two similar disease processes. Dupuytren Disease (DD) is associated with the hands. Morbus Ledderhose Disease (ML) is associated with the foot. So, we will discuss ML here. Before we get started I will tell you a little of what I found about the similarities of the two. Typically, DD is in the palm where there are many connective tissue (fascia) that is elastic and stretchable. With DD, cords develop running parallel to the fascia. Contracture of the hand/fingers occur because these cords are not stretchable. There is pain but not to the extent of ML. With ML the nodules can grow to the extent that walking is affective. But, because feet get more exercise than hands (through the pressure of walking) and there is not the extent of connective tissue in the feet as ther is in the hands, contracture does not seem to happen to the extent of in the hands. It is the nodules that is the culprit in the feet. For all intent and purposes, the nodules are treated much the same way as cancer because of the fast growing nodules and the increased pain involved. Surgery is the recommended therapy followed by radiotherapy. This can be a long healing process. The downside is that many patients report that the nodules grow back, especially those who do not receive radiotherapy after the surgery. As a mater of fact, there was recurrence of the nodules seven months after the surgery (25%-75%) of those patients analyzed. Also, it has been shown that certain medications encourage regrowth. Glucosamine, chondroitin, and phenobarbital are three meds that can result in regrowth and may result in disability and numerous unnecessary surgeries. There is a clinic ‘in you neck of the woods’ with a doctor who is knowledgeable about this disease and the treatment modalities. The clinic: Southeast Radiation Oncology PA Dr Anthony Crimaldi 200 Queens Rd Suite 400 Charlotte, NC 28204 Ph (704) 333-7376 http://www.treatcancer.com. I hope this info helps and may God bless you with a successful outcome.
