Plus Size TTC with no luck. Going for a Preconception Check Up?
I am scheduled for my first Preconception OBGYN appointment on July 8th.
I will be 33 on July 9th and have been ttc since April with no luck. I am 5′5 and 205 pounds. My weight hasn’t really been more than appearence issue to me until I recently started trying to conceive.
For the most part we have been relying on the Calendar Method which doesnt seem to be working because my AF has come every 30 days. Last month I attempted to use a First Response OPK which got very fustrating and I am not sure if I read it accurately. I also started taking Prenatal Vitamins, hoping June would be our month, but my AF ending up arriving 4 days early.
My Medical History Includes:
2 ET Abortions in 1996 &1999, 1 Cone Biopsy in 1998, and
Fibroid Removal in 2005
Since then my cycle has come every 30 days and I havent had any other complications besides weight fluctuations. So I am not too sure if my weight may be the only issue at this point.
I would appreciate any advice, suggestions, or comments for my upcoming Dr’s Visit.

I was about the same size as you before I got pregnant this time (this is my 4th baby) – I am 5′4" or 5′5" and my weight was bouncing around between 199 and 204. I did have a much harder time conceiving this time than I did with my other 3, and I also weighed more than I ever have, so maybe my weight did have something to do with it but I can’t say for sure. When I went to see my doc after TTC for over a year though, he didn’t say anything about my weight. It turned out my progesterone was low and so he gave me a supplement and then I got pregnant right away.
It looks like you’ve only been TTC for only a few months, so don’t get discouraged yet. Try having sex earlier in your cycle to make sure you don’t miss your fertile days. A lot of people make the mistake of waiting too long when it’s actually better to have sex early to make sure the sperm is up there "waiting" for your egg to be released. Start having sex every other day as soon as your period ends, or even during your period if you are comfortable with that – that’s how I got pregnant with my third child.
Good luck!!!
if your periods are regular, it’s unlikely that your weight is causing an issue…make sure to write down all the questions for the Doctor, and they might also recommend a sperm analysis for your partner to make sure everything is ok on his end too.
You can also ask fertility specialists online for free and find other ladies going through similar situations, try fertilityties.com
good luck abnd babydust!
welllllllll i heard if your partner has alot of vitamin c in his system his sperm will be healthy and would give you a greater chance to get pregnant
You definitely need to have your physical condition managed as well as you possibly can. A high blood sugar level can also be a fertility issue, as well as contribute to miscarriage.
The key to fertility, of course, is ovulation. With humans, there is no way to be certain as to if or when a woman has or will ovulate, otherwise the birth control companies would be out of business.
There is a natural way to stimulate ovulation that worked for us. Send me email if you want info.
Keep in mind that only 50% of women have conceived after 6 months of trying. Sometimes these things just take time. I still think you should go for a preconception checkup, though.
Good luck and baby dust!!!
I’ve been TTC for 48 months now, and I am also plus size (5′4" 220). I have regular periods (28 or 29 days), and ovulate on my own around cd17 or 18. This means I have somewhat short luteal phases, which can be a problem implanting. Also, docs think I might have low progesterone levels.
My doc put me on metformin when I first started trying to conceive. Some overweight women have PCOS, but I’ve been checked and they did not see cystic ovaries, so it is thought that I do not have it. PCOS women tend to have long cycles, and since your cycle is 30 days, it is probably also unlikely that you have that. Metformin can help PCOS women ovulate (I am not PCOS, but doc said it couldn’t hurt to try it)
Have you tried charting your BBT’s? Charting your BBT’s will be able to tell the docs SO MANY things. Are you ovulating? When are you ovulating? How long is your luteal phase? Are you hypothyroid? Hyperthyroid? Are you baby dancing at the right time?
